The Defence of Terra

Smaugonite & Croydon vs. Minion

On the seat of humanity, the few remaining Titans from Legio Ignatum are striding forwards to engage their enemies head on.

Unknown to their Princeps, there has been a trap laid for their war engines, and the forces of the Ruinstorm are ready to spring an ambush which could devastate the few remaining titans left in defence of Terra.

Will the Titans of the Ruinstorm be able to defeat the might and power of the Legio Ignatum, or is it the end for the Fire Wasps left on Terra?

The moment we arrived we were on a mission: deploy our titans and their might as quickly as possible to get as much gaming time in!

The photo below shows Minion who had just finished carrying the two heaviest boxes by himself, whilst Smaugonite pushed the trolley and took it easy! (It was all part of Smaugonites tactics… tire your enemy out before the game so he isn’t as focussed!)

Applying the final touches to the Titan under her command, Croydon is giving her Princeps and Moderatii a pep-talk to make sure that they are ready for the impending battle and that they are focussed and they know what is expected of them!

Here is one happy-chappy! Smaugonite has been trying to book this table for over five years, just for a huge titan battle… and this was finally the day for it!

After pep-talks from both Croydon and Smaugonite, the Princeps line up before embarking on their titans and getting out onto the battlefield!

Deployment!

Smaugonite & Croydon rolled for each of the titans in the Loyalist side (8 Titans!) to see what third of the battlefield they would be deployed to, and the spread wasn’t too good. The heavy hitting titans were on the same third and away from the action, meaning that there wouldn’t be much line of sight or covering fire over to the heat of the battle!

The Titans of the Ruinstorm then deployed in positions which were best for the ambush they were carrying out. Minion decided to deploy his two titans ready to try and cut the throat of Custos Aeternam, the original Reaver Titan in the Legio Ignatum force! (Despite Croydon appearing to be on her mobile vox-caster— she is carrying out important works for the battle, after all we did forget to bring any rememberancers!)

In the middle of the board, Minion took a gamble and deployed six Knights in close proximity to each other, which will probably come back to bite him as the Legio Ignatum titans start to open fire!

Too far away from the main battle, Molliret Ad Mortis and Tenebrae Et Spiritus are faced with a single Knight. The pilot inside the Knight is either very brave or very stupid...

Advancing in, the Knight is testing his luck… He plans to charge Molliret Ad Mortem, he wants to bring down Smaugonite’s favourite Warlord Titan. After ripping through Molliret‘s Void Shields, the Pilot pushes his engine to its limits and pulls off the charge!

It’s not just Molliret Ad Mortem that is scaring the traitor knights and titans, Astra Ad Afa is using all of the specialist weapons that the largest titan in the Legio Ignatum can take, and there’s no mercy or holding back when it comes to picking off the enemies to the Imperium!

Incendium Elmo faces down Custos Aeternam here, hoping to pull off a suicide charge which will result in the respects of the Chaos Gods and an eternity of damnation for the Princeps of the Loyalist titan!

This is definitely a battle I do not want to get in the middle of, and I know for a fact this was going to end badly….

Here’s a close up of like-against-like, a battle as long as time. Loyalist vs Traitor, Imperium vs Chaos, Good vs Bad. What titan do you think was victorious?

One of my favourite shots from the whole day was after Noctis Astrum had destroyed Lupus Ignis, and Custos Aeternam and then faced down Molliret Ad Mortem, thinking that the infamous Daemon within could bring low all of these mighty gods of war!

Towards the later half of the game; it was a very dangerous time to be a Princep, with every titan (nearly) getting charged and attacked from every angle and with every kind of weapon!

“Are you talkin’ to me?”

Ignotus Gesta Olim Rex is one of the heavy weapons titans in my Maniple, and having the ability to take 3(!!) Volcano weapons just makes it such a wonderful addition to the group!

One of the Dominus-Pattern Knights faces down a Warhound titan here; in the shadow of the Warbringer titan and is pushing their engines to maximum - in hopes of getting the lucky shot off that might blow this scout titan off the board!

An after action report is dissected by the three Warlord Princeps to better understand the battle and the actions that led to its victory- with one goal in mind; can the same result be achieved any quicker?!
